Wicked Wayback Wednesday Walk from August 24th 2016

Things are still topsy-turvy in the household at the moment, with hubby home from work with a shoulder injury, amongst other things. So once again I checked my old photo files, and found a couple dozen from a wander in my Durham NH yard on August 24th, 2016. I have shared a handful of these on my blog or social media before (specifically the Red-breasted Nuthatch, the angry Hummingbird, and the dancing Goldfinch), but the rest of the 24 (hey, 24 from the 24th – how serendipitous!) have been collecting cyber dust on my hard drive ever since.

Speaking of wandering, don’t forget to wander on over to @tattoodjay‘s latest post, called Wednesday walk on the boardwalk and Make me smile challenge collaboration results and Steem Basic Income Give away which features some wicked awesomesauce shots along the boardwalk at Silver Sands State Park in Milford, Connecticut.

Now, on to my photos from August 24th 2016!

August 24th 2016
Back in 2016, I got this new squirrel proof feeder (which has figured prominently in my pictures ever since), and this was one of the first days of use. The Goldfinches were enjoying it

Mr. Black-capped chickadee approves too.

Not too far away from the feeders, I discovered a secret fairy clubhouse!

However, tasking this spider with guarding the opening didn’t seem to be the best choice…

… although to be fair, I wouldn’t walk under that web to go inside, so actually – good choice, fairies!

August 24th 2016
Just remembered this Wood Nymph butterfly made an appearance in my collection of 13 butterflies post

August 24th 2016
However, this guy didn’t, as it’s not a butterfly – it’s a Carolina Locust flying by.

August 24th 2016
I took a ridiculous number of pictures of them flying through the air, and only a few were better than a blurry blob…

August 24th 2016
…but they looked so cool, I couldn’t help myself!

August 24th 2016
A female Ruby-throated Hummingbird stopped by for a drink…

August 24th 2016
…and let me know how she felt about the paparazzi.

Mr. Goldfinch is giving me the side eye too.

I wasn’t completely sure about my ID for this bird, so I asked in a FB birding group, and they confirmed that this is a Juvenile Phoebe.

They also confirmed this first sighting (for me) of a Red-breasted Nuthatch.

The pictures weren’t the greatest, but given how far I was across the yard, I was amazed they even came out as a recognizable bird.

I’ve only spotted this guy once or twice more in the past three years, but I’m hoping some day to get a clearer shot.

Miss Goldfinch doing a happy dance

She doesn’t seem to appreciate being watched…

…seems like she’s complaining to somebody

One last side eye before she took off.

Oh and look! Seems Miss Hummingbird is a bit angry that I didn’t listen to her feelings about the paparazzi and I upset Miss Goldfinch!

She? Now she’s shunning me!

Rather than risk upsetting the birds further, I headed back inside, stopping just long enough to get a shot of this Pink Common Zinnia by our front door.

Happy walking & see you next week!
