Tarot Tuesday reading for the week of August 18th 2020

Welcome to another one of my Tarot Tuesday posts! I started doing these free readings monthly back in late 2015, then switched to every week in early 2016. They’re by far my most popular posts, as well as being one of my favorites to put together. Today’s reading is for the week of August 18th 2020.

Apologies for running a bit late this morning! I had this all set to auto publish at 8am EST, but I got caught up in the latest #HiveChat on Twitter (which started at the same time), and didn’t think to double check that it went through. Silly WordPress! LOL! And while I’m thinking of it, congratulations to @artemislives for leading an awesomesauce #TwitterChat, and I’m already excited about @pixiepost‘s turn at the mic next week! For any of my Hive friends, be sure to keep your eyes open for posts about it. For my non-Hive friends, please feel free to shout out if you’re interested in taking a peek!

And now with that said, it’s time to start the reading. The setup of how I do these was not my original idea – I was actually inspired by how a few other bloggers were doing their readings back years ago. And since this method is a little bit different than how some other readers on other social media do them (usually posting the card backs first, then the messages at a later time), here’s a quick breakdown on how this works…

First, pick a card you are drawn to from the photo below. If more than one speaks to you, go ahead and pick that one too. You can even pick all three, in whatever order you like!

When you’ve decided on your card (or cards), scroll down to the bottom of the page for the photo revealing the card faces, and your message for the upcoming week.

Also, don’t be worried if you don’t happen to see this exactly on Tuesday. The message will be ready and waiting for you whenever you get here. 😊

I would also like to mention…

Now here are the backs of the cards for this week. Take a moment to clear your mind, inhale and exhale deeply, center yourself – whatever you need to do to focus. When you’re ready, take a look at the photo and then decide which one (or ones) speaks to you. Then scroll down to the bottom of the post for the picture of the front of the cards, and your message.

August 18 2020, Back

Next up, as a bit of insurance policy to make sure you don’t see the picture of the front of the cards before you’ve made your choice, I’m putting some of my infographics here as a type of spacer/spoiler prevention. According to the EarthSky website, the New/Dark moon will arrive in my area later tonight

The new moon falls on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at 02:41 UTC. Translate UTC to your time. For U.S. time zones, it will occur on Tuesday, the 18th, before midnight: 10:41 p.m. EDT, 9:41 p.m. CDT, 8:41 MST, and 7:41 PDT.

Since I haven’t shared them in a while, I thought it would be a good time to use a couple of simple New/Dark moon rituals I’ve put together over the years.

Now it’s time for the big reveal! Here are the fronts of the cards…
August 18th 2020, Front

…and the messages for each card are…

1. Eight of Cups

A new journey. Change can be scary. But sometimes you need to just walk away from it all, and start down a different path. Time to get out of your comfort zone, and follow your gut instinct that there’s something better and more fulfilling out there. This can also mean that you feel you’ve given something (like a job, relationship, or creative endeavor) everything you’ve got, and you haven’t gotten anything in return. It’s okay to say, enough’s enough, leave it behind, and look for something new that speaks to your soul. As Brent Smith from Shinedown says, “Sometimes goodbye is a second chance.”

Tarot Tidbit: The Eight of Cups was last seen back in the spring, in the second position, on April 21st, 2019.

2. The World

Journey’s End. You’ve been moving towards a goal, and after all your steps (and missteps), you’ve finally reached your destination. Don’t believe it? Think about where you were this time last year, and see how far you’ve come. This can also mean a sudden epiphany about your place in the grand scheme of things, and a desire to connect to a greater community. In either case, it’s time to celebrate, while also getting ready for your next journey (just like Seneca the Younger, and the song both say, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”).

Tarot Tidbit: The World was seen just a month ago, in the first position, on July 14th, 2020.

3. Nine of Cups

Satisfaction is imminent. You’ve put tons of good karma, juju, and positivity into the world. Now the Universe wants to give some back. Relax, and sit by the fire for a spell while the Universe fills your cup with your favorite beverage. The innkeeper may also be asking you, what’s the good of all your hard work, if you don’t take a moment to enjoy it? Maybe it’s time to splurge on yourself a bit for a change. Every now and then, it’s good to cut loose…Footloose… kick off the Sunday shoes…

Tarot Tidbit: The Nine of Cups hasn’t been seen in a year and a half! The last time, it was in the second position, on February 12th, 2019.

I hope you enjoyed your message for the week of August 18th 2020! Bright blessings to you!
