When Mother Nature says, “April Fools!”

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, on April 1st 2017 Mother Nature decided to prank New England with a springtime Nor’easter. Apparently she decided that was so much fun, she wanted to do it again, but lucky for us her attempt was much less enthusiastic this time around.

I’ve also mentioned a few times lately that I decided not to be caught without my camera when heading out with hubby in the car (since I’m perpetually a passenger now thanks to my Essential Tremor, taking pictures while driving is much less dangerous these days… and yes, kidding – I was far too uptight as a driver to try to snap shots whilst wheeling down the highway). However, when we took off on Thursday to do a few quick errands, it was late afternoon on a cloudy day, so I decided to leave my Nikon at home.

As I walked out to the car, I said to hubby, “Hey, it almost looks like bits of hail spitting down.”

By the time we got to our first destination (auto supply store for a new car battery – story for another day), it was most definitely snowing. And me without my aforementioned camera.

So I decided to give my phone camera a go, and after taking close to 100 captures (with about two dozen of those being short videos of the snow coming down), I combed through and found enough decent ones for a post! Now, without further ado…

When Mother Nature says April Fools
1. In the ten minutes or so we stopped at the auto parts place (I stayed in the car), we got a fair bit of accumulation.

2. It even started sticking a bit to the pavement – those are tire tracks from a car pulling out though, not skid marks.

3. About another ten to fifteen minutes later as we were heading down a highway towards the grocery store, there was noticeable accumulation on roofs and the ground.

4. Last minute I decided to try to get a shot of a sign by the road that always makes me giggle (and tried to clean up as best as possible with PicMonkey, hence the spotlight filter). Years ago when I worked with my sister-in-law for her house cleaning business, one of her clients lived up that hill…

4a. … and every time we turned past this sign, we’d joke about how we should drive a bit further down the road to the park to see if they needed house cleaners, as it would save her money on washing our uniforms!
(this image from Flickr, since mine was too blurry for anyone who isn’t local to see why I find it amusing. 😂 )

5. When we got to the grocery store (Market Basket, for those inquiring minds), there was a fair bit on the ground.

6. The first of a handful of short videos I converted to gifs, since it was lazier easier than uploading videos. Rain, sleet, and snow – oh my!

7. By the time we were done with shopping, it was looking like a winter wonderland.

8. Like being in a snowglobe!

11. We stopped to get some gas on the way home and the snow started to pick up a bit.

12. Driving down the dark country roads towards home was kinda trippy.

13. And a bit mesmerizing.

16. Please, oh please.

17. Top of our driveway looking at our landlady’s house. The next morning, a fair bit of this snow stayed on the ground for the first half of the day, but I didn’t think to get followup shots…oopsies

18. And at least we didn’t end up with much more than this, unlike in years past.

  1. And I thought Irish weather was mad! Sun split sky and garden in long sleeved t-shirt yesterday. Coat and gloves today and promise of some snow on Tuesday!
