On Monday June 20, both Litha and the Full Moon occurring at the same time! Well, technically the full moon happens at 7:02am, and Litha is officially at 6:34pm, but still – pretty awesome.
First up, a bit about Litha, from someone who is having a birthday in a couple days!
June 20, 2012 Summer Solstice: On the first day of summer, finding balance by Starhawk
Summer solstice is the longest day and the shortest night of the year and marks the first day of summer. For witches and pagans and all who celebrate the cycles of nature, this is the time when we honor the light, knowing that it will begin to decline and bring back the dark. Nothing lasts forever. Death comes to us all, in time. Empires fall. A rising tide may lift all boats—but a tide that rises and rises without falling is not a tide at all, but a disaster.
The cycles of light and dark, growth and decay, are part of life. They are woven into our cells, our bones, and we forget them at our peril. For if we try to cling to youth without accepting age, we become like the evil Queen in Snow White, blighting all around us in our quest for private immortality. If we expect endless growth and expansion, without contraction and constraints, we become a cancer on the face of the earth.

Then, for the full moon, once again I turn to those better versed in astrology than myself. This is a bit from an article by Molly Hall, over at AboutReligion.com. Be sure to click HERE and check out the rest of her piece, “Sagittarius Full Moon – June 20th, 2016.” She has a bunch of good information and suggestions in it. Now, for the snippet –
This is the second Sagittarius Full Moon this season, and a bright note that coincides with Summer Solstice!
In this perilous sea of delusion and overwrought emotion, Sagittarius makes a beeline for the fiery trail that’s true. It’s on June 20th, and at 29 degrees, which is the master degree, a kind of last blast.
The Sagittarius Moon is jolted awake with Uranus in a stimulating trine from Aries. It’s one of those moments, you know the kind, where the pieces fuse together in a new awareness — and suddenly the future looks brighter.
This is a fire sign of action, and sometimes Full Moons are active, as opposed to New Moons. With all the mutable shifting, things could happen fast, and jettison you down an unexpected pathway.
What’s outstanding, too, is that Mercury (in Gemini) forms a triggering T-square with Saturn-Neptune. If you’re being triggered by life, and overwhelmed, this could be one of those breakthrough moments.
My tip for this peak is to trust your higher moral conscience, and sense of what’s true.
If you sense you’re drowning in confusion, the steps to awareness could be giant ones now.
You can blaze your own trail with moral courage, an open mind and willingness to question all you know.
Finally, here are the two graphics I created for the occasion. Bright Litha and the Full Moon Blessings!
