WW – Daily Tarot

I picked up my first Tarot deck and guide book a bazillion years ago in the early ’80s. However, because of the lovely little voice that constantly whispered in my brain, “What makes you think you have the talent for Tarot?” (amongst other lovely, inspiring messages *grin*), no matter how many times I read the book, or tried to meditate on each card, I couldn’t seem to get the meanings to stick. Whenever someone asked me to read their cards, I had to keep my trusty book nearby, so I could look up meanings when I inevitably got stuck.

Almost eight years ago (July 15th, 2007 to be exact), I took the advice of a Tarot card reader friend and began drawing a daily Tarot card, then recording the results in a spreadsheet. It quickly became a habit, and I haven’t missed many days over the years. I keep the cards between my computer keyboard and monitor, and after I draw my card, I lay it face-up on the deck, so it’s always in view when I’m at my desk.

While my friend recommended writing my own interpretation of each card, I instead took the meanings from one of my favorite Tarot websites, Aeclectic Tarot.

While this exercise didn’t magically give me the courage to put the book away, I think when the opportunity presented itself (a story for another Witchy Wednesday), having the meanings so ingrained in my subconscious made a huge difference. For my Tarot reading friends – do you have any favorite resources for card interpretations? I’d love to hear about them in the comment section.

Oh, and happy last day of Mercury Retrograde (until May 19th)!
