My Quote Challenge for National Photography Month May 2017

A week from today National Photography Month begins. Here’s a blurb from the official website The American Photography Association (sadly, not updated since 2014) –

NPM was officially recognized by Congress in 1987 as a month-long event. It was first introduced by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 as the ‘American Photography Celebration’ which ran from May 7-14. The American Photography Association (the “Association”) is a primary sponsor of National Photography Month and our goal is to maintain President Reagan’s vision to celebrate photography and photographers.

Two years ago, I did a different photo theme for each Monday in May. Last year, I belatedly came up with the idea of doing a quote challenge, and it was so much fun, I’m doing it again this year. However, unlike last year, I’m not limiting myself to pictures taken during May – I have such a huge library of shots that haven’t seen the light of day, I figured I might as well put them to use.

So here’s my challenge, and I’ll need your help, dear readers – please leave me one of your favorite quotes in the comment section below, and I’ll pair it with a picture I’ve taken. If you’re a blogger, be sure to leave a link as well, so I can give you a shout out. If you can’t think of anything this week, no worries – I’ll post results and ask for more quotes each Monday in May.

To get the ball rolling, here’s one from last year’s Week One

National Photography Month May 2017. First, this is not a passive voice. Next, I am writing in an active voice. Therefore, my SEO will stop telling me how to write. Furthermore, these sentences are also shorter than twenty words. Rather, stop being so controlling. Especially since most of the sentences in this post are not mine. I will keep going while until you turn green. National Photography Month May 2017. I can’t believe this is still orange. Finally, it has turned. Success! First, this is not a passive voice. 1. Thanks April! That picture was a happy surprise – it was so bright out when I took the picture that I couldn’t see the spider. It wasn’t until I uploaded my camera to my computer that I spotted it. 🙂

  1. I love, love, love that tiny spider in the dandelion with the quote, and I love it more that it didn’t show itself until after you’d uploaded the photo! Amazing. Looked up my last year’s quote choice, strangely ironic given my state this year… still appropriate. Sigh. Here is a new one:

“Ego says, “Once everything falls into place, I’ll feel peace.” Spirit says, “Find your peace, and then everything will fall into place.” – Marianne Williamson

Can’t wait to see what you pair it with! You are such a gifted photographer.

    1. I just found your quote from last year, Jess – owie! Love your choice for this year, and hope I can do it justice. Oh, and thanks so much for the encouragement and the kind words!

  2. That’s a beautiful picture! Ok, my quote is ‘Life is too short to finish bad books.’ 🙂

  3. I love that quote and pic that you have there.
Mine is “If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got”. . (It’s the first that came into my head because it’s my favourite at the moment for personal reasons. Is it a real quote – I don’t know, my friend gave it to me….).

    1. I did a little Googling, and according to the website Quote Investigator, yes it’s a real quote. Here’s the original (from what they could determine) –

“If you always do what you’ve always done, you always get what you’ve always gotten.” ~ Jessie Potter (educator and counselor on family relationships and human sexuality), featured speaker at Milwaukee, Wisconsin’s Woman to Woman conference in 1981.

  4. Hi Traci! LOVE this idea.I have two for you: “I have no special talent, I am only passionately curious.” Albert Einstein and “If you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.” Conan O’Brien

Feel free to shout out!
