MM – Nature Break

Last month, there was a day I felt Hope Quotes were in order. Today, I’m feeling a Nature Break is called for. Here are the wise words of other people, paired with my photographs.

Nature Break Woods with Jung quote, watermarked

“Whenever we touch nature we get clean. People who have got dirty through too much civilization take a walk in the woods or a bath in the sea. They shake off the fetters and allow nature to touch them. It can be done within or without. Walking in the woods or laying on the grass, taking a bath in the sea are from the outside entering the unconscious, entering yourself through dreams is touching nature from the inside and this is the same thing, things are put right again.” ~ Carl Jung, Dream Analysis; Notes on a Lecture given 1928-1930.

Crazy clouds at sunset with Carson quote, watermarked

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature—the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.” ~ Rachel Carson

Nature Break Crow with green leaf heart, McMahon quote, watermarked

“I believed then – in a deep, easy way that is impossible for me as an adult – that there was more to this world than meets the eye. Trees had spirits; the wind spoke. If you followed a toad or a raven deep into the heart of the forest, they were sure to lead you to something magical.” ~ Jennifer McMahon

Also, happy birthday to our boy. I can’t believe this picture was taken ten years ago, and this is his last birthday as a teenager.

  1. Happy birthday to your boy! I know these years will pass quickly.

Really great quotes and beautiful images. I was just over at Travelcraft Journal, and she also had a lovely cloud pic. Good reminders to pay attention to the sky tonight.

    And get me some nature.

    1. Thanks, Lori! The youngest sweetly (meaning, diabolically) pointed out recently that when she turns 19 in a few years, our other two will be almost 22, and 24! Quick ain’t a quick enough word for for it!

I loved Stephanie’s picture too. And yes, while you capture some beautiful things yourself when you’re looking down, looking up is always cool too. 😀

  2. “Whenever we touch nature we get clean.” I love that quote! I grew up on a farm, and I’m never far from nature even now. Perhaps familiarity bred contempt? But when we went on safari for the first time, I truly felt cleansed. (I wrote about it here – https://aseparatelife.wordpress.com/2009/06/04/getting-back-to-nature/) As a result, and after some other experiences, I have a new appreciation of nature. So I thoroughly appreciate these photos and quotes. Thank you!

    1. Mali, that was an awesome post! I would love to visit the bush some day and see that African orange in person. You’re very welcome, and thank you in return!

    1. We’d already decided to postpone the cake/birthday dinner until later this week (I think I’m the only one upset that he didn’t get to make a birthday wish on the actual day), because of schedules and such. But he had a nice day, nonetheless. And thank you very much, Mel.

  3. I grew up on a farm in the country. In September I will celebrate living in the city for 10 years. I always describe going back to the country as a sense of freedom, but the description of it being cleansing also fits! 🙂

    1. Wow, Ashley – going from a farm to the city is a big switch! I completely agree – freedom and cleansing both describe the experience pretty well. 🙂

    1. Glad you love the quotes, Jess! Sad to say, I haven’t read any of JM’s books yet, even though she’s from my neck of the woods! But now that I know they exist, I plan to buy one asap – from the blurbs, they look amazing!

Feel free to shout out!
