MM – National Day on Writing

Tomorrow is the National Day on Writing, and I plan to participate. Here’s the blurb from the official site –

What, how, and why do you write?
October 20, 2015

The National Writing Project, NCTE, The New York Times Learning Network, and the Teaching Channel invite you to celebrate writing in all its forms: through photos, film, and graphics; pens, pencils, and computers; in graphs, etchings, and murals; on sidewalks, screens, and paper. This year we are asking people in our community to share their writing life with us. Post your writing during the National Day on Writing Tweet-Up on October 20 with the hashtag #whyiwrite.

Why do you write?

Every year on Oct. 20, we band together with partners like the National Council of Teachers of English, the National Writing Project and the Teaching Channel to encourage teachers, students and the world at large to celebrate the National Day on Writing by sharing their thoughts on Twitter.

Inspired by a classic essay by George Orwell, our group first put out the call for people to tweet with the hashtag #WhyIWrite way back in 2011, and it was an instant success.

  3. Oh! I had no clue this was happening today. There’s still time for me to jump into the activities, but I wish I had known earlier.

    1. Mel, I saw it in my FB newsfeed late last evening, as I was struggling to come up with a topic for this post. But I figure this way, I’ll know in plenty of time for next year. 😀

    1. The only qualification that I know of is that you’re a writer. I’m not published, and most of the people I saw tweeting today aren’t either. I say, go for it Shailaja!

    1. Don’t let that stop you, Jessica! I know plenty of writers who are not good story tellers (*cough* *cough*ELJames*cough* *cough*) and still get their stories across. Keep writing!
