MM – Microblog Mondays

When I participated in NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) back in November 2014, I stumbled upon the idea of doing short, social media status update-types of blog entries. This is part of the description from the Stirrup Queens website about Microblog Mondays –

MicroblogMondays is a response to the mass exodus from long blogging in your own space to writing status updates on other social media sites. Instead of writing out posts in their own home on the Web, more and more people are opting to place their brilliant, witty observations or thought-provoking images in someone else’s home; namely, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and the like.

And while those sites as well as the communities that have sprung up in those spaces are lovely, they don’t really fulfill the purpose of blogging in the first place: to plant your flag on the vast surface of the Internet and say, “here I am.” Here, being your own home. Because while you may have accounts on various social media platforms, you don’t actually own your space on Twitter or Facebook or the like.

From here on out, I plan to post some of my better Facebook statuses (statusi? statii?) over here for at least one Musing Monday a month. My first is a post from June 6th –

Not sure if this was a phoebe, a sparrow, or the bluebird (they were all hanging around the yard at the time), but somebody was nice enough to perch pretty for me this evening. I call it, “Shagbark Silhouette.” *grin*

    1. Thanks, Mel! It was a total spur of the moment shot, and I was wicked psyched that it came out as well as it did.

Oh, and thanks for stopping by – much appreciated.

  1. I really LOVE that photo! And I love the quote from Stirrup Queens — there’s something about trying to blog via Facebook that’s too ephemeral, for me. I guess that’s why I keep my LiveJournal going.

    1. Thanks! 🙂

I love that quote as well – I found Stirrup Queens when I did NaBloPoMo back in November (someone highlighted the idea of #MicroblogMondays as a way to get through the month), but I didn’t investigate the site until recently. T’is a very cool place.

Feel free to shout out!
