MM – Happy Moon Day

Happy Moon Day!

Thursday night, about 4 hours before the moon turned completely full, I snapped a picture and posted it to Facebook (also had it as a “bonus shot” on my Foto Friday post). A short time later, one of my Facebook friends commented, and said she wanted to buy a copy of it.

Like, pay money.

For a picture I took.

*swoon*

What an amazing and unexpected validation. Even if this is the only picture I ever sell in my lifetime, it’s an incredible feeling to know someone connected to my work enough to want to keep it. So now I’ve finally uploaded a picture to the Fine Art America account I opened back in September – if you want to see it, click here.

Speaking of work, be sure to check out the website of the extremely talented T.J. Burns. She is an amazing writer, and apparently has pretty good taste in photography. *grin*

To celebrate, I’ve declared today to be, “Moon Day” and I’m sharing some of the other bazillion shots I took on the 22nd. These are my top ten favorites, all taken between 12:30am and 11:30pm-ish.

I know it's the Full Pink Moon in name only, but I love that the light decided to play this awesome trick for me!

Happy Moon Day Cloudy pink.
Cloudy pink.
Glowing in the cloudy sky.
Glowing in the cloudy sky.
I always feel like... somebody's watching me...
I always feel like… somebody’s watching me…
More beautiful natural light tricks, this time with pink and blue.

Wispy and glowy.

The sky is never boring.

Is it me, or does the man in the moon look surprised here?

Just as she turned full.
Just as she turned full.
Again, just as she turned full.
A minute later.

  1. The moon was quite pinkish hereabouts and I went, ‘No wonder they call it Pink Moon!’ But the pinkishness was most on the day after full moon. I posted a picture of the Pink mini-moon on Foto Friday ๐Ÿ™‚
And wow, someone wanted to buy your photo! That’s so awesome and cause for celebration. ๐Ÿ˜€ The first photo is excellent.

    1. Thank you, Shail! I got notification of their purchase yesterday. I’m totally… over the moon… about it! ๐Ÿ˜€

You got an amazing shot of the moon too!

    1. It’s pretty straight forward – you upload your images, choose what products you want available (in addition to prints & photo cards, they also have things like pillows, phone covers, and such), and let people know they’re for sale. Thirty days after the sale (time for the buyer to return if dissatisfied), you are credited with your commission, then they issue payments on the 15th of every month to your Paypal account. From what I’ve gathered through Google and asking around, they have the best quality paper and framing materials, compared to other services like Redbubble and Zazzle. I plan to order a print for myself as well, to see for myself what the final product looks like.

      Oh, and thank you!

  2. They are gorgeous shots. Part of it is good equipment, but the larger part is your eye for detail and framing.

  3. Oh, beautiful! The first, the third, and the seventh are my favorites, but they are all lovely! Congrats on the sale, that’s amazing validation and must feel so good. I didn’t realize it was a full moon until I saw it out my window, and suddenly my cat going crazy and yowling all over the place made total sense. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you for sharing your photographic talent, I love what you and the new camera are doing!

    1. Thanks, Jess! Yep, the wildlife around here was pretty vocal too – our cat Sid, though, is remarkably unimpressed with the moon. Appreciate your appreciation!

  4. So beautiful… And as for selling photos… I can relate totally… When I started writing for newspapers, I was earning about $30,000 /yr at my “day job” and $40 /month for my articles. Guess which one I was beaming about and which one meant absolutely nothing?

    1. Thanks, Lori – and I completely understand. My first blog was through a local newspaper – when they gave all their bloggers $25 gift certificates as appreciation gifts, I about lost my brain, since I felt it counted as getting paid. I’m still beaming about that one too.

Feel free to shout out!
