FF – I heart Drive by Incubus

I’ve loved, “Drive” by Incubus for about a bazillion years, but it wasn’t until recently that I discovered something about their video that made me love the song even more. Here’s a blurb from an article on the MTV website

Incubus singer Brandon Boyd and drummer Jose Pasillas drew — literally — on their college art-class experience for the group’s new video to “Drive.”

The hard-rock band had planned to hire an animator to create imagery inspired by one of Dutch graphic artist M.C. Escher’s best-known works, “Drawing Hands” — a sketch of two hands drawing each other.

But after speaking with the video’s director, Phil Harder — who also shot Incubus’ “Stellar” clip — Boyd and Pasillas decided to try their own hands at the project.

The pair, who studied art in college while playing in the band, spent more than 50 hours creating the frame-by-frame images. The animated material is interspersed with live performance footage in the clip, which was shot in Harder’s hometown, Minneapolis.

“I’ve always been fascinated with experimental animation, and this video gave me a chance to bring together my passion for music and drawing,” Boyd said in a statement issued through his publicist.

How cool is that? Well, see for yourself –

Oh, wait! Before you check out the video (and I’ve posted the lyrics below as well), I also wanted to mention another love-worthy thing about this song and band. The track comes from the album, “Make Yourself” and back in 2003, Incubus created a nonprofit called, “The Make Yourself Foundation.” To date, they raised tons of money, and given grants to, some amazing causes. Check out the list here.

Okay, now on to the wicked awesomeness that is the video for “Drive.”

Lyrics courtesy of Google Play

“Sometimes I feel the fear of the uncertainty stinging clear
And I can’t help but ask myself how much I’ll let the fear take the wheel and steer

It’s driven me before, and it seems to have a vague
Haunting mass appeal
Lately I’m beginning to find that I should be the one behind the wheel

Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
With open arms and open eyes, yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there, I’ll be there

So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own and drive, oh oh
It’s driven me before, and it seems to be the way
That everyone else gets around
Lately, I’m beginning to find that when I drive myself, my light is found

Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
With open arms and open eyes, yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there, I’ll be there

Would you choose water over wine… hold the wheel and drive?

Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there
With open arms and open eyes, yeah
Whatever tomorrow brings, I’ll be there, I’ll be there”

Feel free to shout out!
