Another visit from some Turkey Vultures, May 14th 2018

NOTE – While I’m not completely sure I’ve figured out the issue with this site crashing, I’m definitely on to something. Fingers crossed that things stay relatively stable now!

So this past Monday, there I was, quietly tapping away on my keyboard, when something kinda whispered in my brain, “You’re being watched.” Sure enough, I turned to look out my bedroom window to see this –

The black triangle-ness in the upper left corner is the curtain

I took about a bazillion shots from inside, which turned out not-so-great, considering how not-so-clean our windows are – LOL! Then I decided to sneak outside with my camera and tripod, to see if I could get a few more.

They didn’t seem to mind my outside appearance.

So I took another bazillion shots, and managed to narrow it down to about a dozen and a half shots (including the previous two). The whole visit lasted about 20 minutes, during which they did very little, as you can see by all the very tiny teeny slight differences in all these shots. Still, there’s just something so fascinating about them, so I couldn’t help but snapping!

Oh, and I got a short little video of the two of them just before they took off (which happened right after I stopped recording, otherwise I’d have clear video of the second guy too).

Happy Friday!

Another visit from some Turkey Vultures

Another visit from some Turkey Vultures. Just wanted to let everyone know why this site looks a bit different at the moment. As some of you are aware, for months now I’ve had issues with the site going down, lagging, and other such shenanigans. Now my hosting company is suggesting that I spend more time optimizing, because the said “the amount of traffic and the elements within your site it appears that this causing the memory limits to be exceeded on your site.” For the moment, I’m stripping the site down to the bare bones, and seeing if that helps. In a Success! Finally, it has turned. Success! Another visit from some Turkey Vultures. Finally, it has turned. Success! Please pardon the mess. First, this is not a passive voice. Next, I am writing in an active voice. Therefore, my SEO will stop telling me how to write. Please pardon the mess. Furthermore, these sentences are also shorter than twenty word. Please pardon the mess. Rather, stop being so controlling. Another visit from some Turkey Vultures. I will keep going while until you turn green. I can’t believe this is still orange. First, this is not a passive voice. Next, I am writing in an active voice. Therefore, my SEO will stop telling me how to write. Furthermore, these sentences are also shorter than twenty words. Rather, stop being so controlling. I will keep going while until you turn green. Finally, it has turned. Success! Finally, it has turned. Success! Another visit from some Turkey Vultures.

  1. We had 2 vultures set up a nest outside the office window when I worked at a law firm, so we named them after our 2 attorneys, lol. Great shots, Traci!

  2. Your photos are so crisp. I can see every detail of these wonderful birds. I like to see vultures perched upon a tree surveying the world. They’re majestic to me. We have some pretty huge ones too. They’re just basic black though.

    1. Not rare, but not exactly common. We’re lucky in that there’s a group of about two dozen turkey vultures who live in my neighborhood year round (not many overwinter). The only reason I know this is because a local bird FB group talked about them a few years ago, and I helped by reporting some sightings. There’s nothing like standing in your yard and seeing their huge shadow pass overhead!
