About Me

UPDATED November 5th, 2017

As you may have guessed from the name of this blog, my name is Traci (InternetG33k to some), and I am a writer. I am also a Tarot card reader, a witch, a geek, and a shutterbug (not necessarily in that order, but since my blogging topics are Microblog Mondays, Tarot Tuesdays, Witchy Wednesdays and Fandom/Foto Fridays, it seemed like the logical order. *grin*

My writerly face, circa 2010.
My writerly face, circa 2010.

My work first appeared in print around 1971, when a poem I wrote for a contest was published in the local newspaper. I was six years old at the time. In 2009, the beginning chapters of my novel, Tangled Web, hit the Editor’s Desk on the Harper Collins (now defunct) website Authonomy (think American Idol for writers). I have a sneaking suspicion the ethereal being in charge of my inspiration does not have a clear concept of time.

Since the general recommendation I got from the editor was, “Don’t quit your day job” I quietly drowned my sorrows in chocolate and vodka, continued on with my work as a domestic engineer and administrator for the York Homeschool Academy. However, in 2014, my fickle muse cut a deal with me – I give her three blog posts a week, and she’ll make the main characters of my NaNoWriMo project The Maeve Sawyer series (computer geek becomes ghost whisperer) behave themselves. I’m now up to four blog posts a week, and beginning to think I should’ve checked the fine print on the contract.

However, I will give her some props, because my since I upped my posting game, I’ve had a handful of featured and paid posts on the BlogHer/SheKnows website (they were separate entities when I started, but have since merged). Naturally, I wrote a post about the first one) but here’s a complete list –

In 2016, after hubby bought me a new camera, I was also pleasantly surprised to find people wanted my pictures hanging on their walls (or covering their beds). Speaking of money, while I have Adsense installed on the site, and a few affiliate links in the sidebar, it’s more a, “why not” than “make me monies” kind of thing. If I’ve somehow dragged you kicking and screaming to my little corner of the web, it’s because I crave feedback, not greenback. Oh, and chocolate. Always chocolate.

That being said, in July 2017, after a discussion on THE BEST blogging group on Facebook, I decided to add a virtual tip jar to my widgets on the left. Apparently there are people out there who like to drop $3 at a time (via the magic of Paypal) into the hats of virtual buskers. So if you want to buy me a cup of coffee (or two, or five, or…) feel free to click away!

Oh, I almost forgot – I bet you’re still wondering what I meant by, “InternetG33k to some” in the beginning of my intro. In 2005, I started my blogging career by writing a semi-fictional blog called, “Confessions of an Internet G33k” for a local newspaper (you can find my first post HERE). While my fictional self was a bit more geeky than me, in short order, the moniker became my own.

Other words that apply to me are –

Last, but not least – I love hearing from people, so if you’d like to shout out, either stalk me through my social media links (they’re all in the widget on the left) or give me a holler through my contact page or email (admin@traciyork.com).

Feel free to help yourself to some freshly baked cyber-chocolate chip cookies, grab a frosty beverage from the fridge, and make yourself comfy. Hope you enjoy your stay!

  1. Hey Traci! I didn’t realise you started writing at such a young age – it must be an innate talent! I love your photos too, they have such a emotive quality to them. I’m sending a virtual pack of chocolate chip cookies your way. Perhaps we can sit and share them over a suitable beverage πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks so much, Jo – for both the compliments and the cookies! I’ve put your virtual snack on the coffee table, next to a variety of beverages, so help yourself to whatever suits your fancy. As we’re in the midst of yet another April Fool’s snowstorm (I swear New England gets more than its fair share), it’s the perfect time for cookies & company!

  2. So, my deduction about witch was rather intuitive given I’ve not been here until today after seeing a “comments off, comments” on post on the FB blogging group. (So not thinking Karate Kid and waxing here). Nice About page Traci, seems writing has always been with you on life’s journey to now. A NaNo weirdo too…very good. I must stalk your profile there too! Have to say your blog fits this about page too. From writing to occult to photography. Good to know more about you

      1. I Traci, have the power of foresight…well, that’s how Joe Stringer would reply at least. Remind me to lie low around Halloween…although….I have an undertaker that visits about then for short story telling

  3. Love your About Me section Traci. Nice to learn more about you. Also, please can have some freshly backed cyber-cookies? I like it when they’re still warm

    1. You most certainly can have as many cookies as you like, Hayley – in fact, I just made a fresh batch especially for you! And thanks so much, dear lady!

    1. Emily, you have no idea what you’ve started! Sad to say, but I hadn’t had a chocolate martini prior to your comment – a couple nights later, at our local writing group (held at a restaurant), it became a bit of a running joke until my husband finally ordered me one (granted, it took me nudging him a bit). Now I’m counting the seconds until our next meeting! LOL! Thanks so much for the new obsession in my life.

  4. Great About Me page Traci, especially the words that describe you part. I love that πŸ™‚

    1. Always happy to be the reason someone can tick something off their bucket list – LOL! In all seriousness, Alice, feel free to shout out if you ever want to, “Ask a Witch” – hey, I should make that a future blog post! Thanks in return for the inspiration! πŸ˜€

        1. Oi! Looks like someone cast a spell on ME — or perhaps the blogging gods are angry; didn’t mean to reply twice — but I suppose twice is better than not at all (!)

          1. LOL! Apparently the blogging gods aren’t too happy with me – I just discovered a handful of comments (including yours) here that I never replied to! Or maybe I did something to anger Emily Post – in either case, sorry for the delay, and agreed – I’d rather twice than none. πŸ™‚

  5. Hi Traci! Brilliant “About Me” section here, so informative and fun. I like how you have included lots of links to your work on other websites, and the word cloud is a luscious idea. Thanks for being a great blogging pal and including us all in your magical world

    1. Aww, thanks in return, Em! You and the crew in BUYB have been amazingly supportive and all around wicked awesomesauce! You’re pretty brilliant yourself, dear girl! <3

    1. Whoo hoo! Best of luck with camp, Amelia! I’ll have to see if I can find your profile over there, so we can cheer each other on during November. πŸ™‚

  6. Hi, Traci! I’m kinda into the whole “computer geek becomes ghost whisperer” idea. Can’t wait to see how that series plays out! One thing I’ve noticed about you is your incredible generosity towards others. Because it might be awkward to say that about yourself, let me be the one to say it about you! Being a good human being is something of an art form, and you’re a master.

    1. Not feeling very masterful at the moment, given how much time it’s taken me to reply to your amazingly awesome comment! Thank you so much for your kind words – given how much I admire your own generosity and good humanness, it means all that much more.

  7. This is such a fun and friendly about me page!!

Once my friend and i had a vodka party. We added loads of different things to vodka (like skittles, cranberries, oranges, spices etc…) But the vodkas that worked the best were the chocolate ones! We had a milkybar vodka, a cadburys vodka, a mint areo vodka and a dark chocolate vodka. We put the chocolate straight into the bottles, and over about 4 weeks, the vodka absorbed it to become chocolatey alcoholic deliciousness. They were all amazing as white Russians!! I have a feeling you might have liked them!!

    1. Oooo, those sound like amazing combinations! Thanks for giving me the inspiration & motivation to invest in some supplies (okay, to be fair, I’m always motivated to buy chocolate… LOL!). Thanks so much for dropping by, and apologies I spaced answering your comment until now (and I can’t even blame vodka/chocolate experimentation yet)!

  8. Guess who’s here… ? πŸ™‚ Ok, I help you… does amateur_photography makes you think about someone? Yep, it’s me πŸ™‚
Saw your post on ello and decided to visit your blog. I will not participate in your “quote”-challenge… my english is too bad. But at least now I know who is hiding behind that little witch I see on ello πŸ™‚

    1. LOL! I recognized your profile picture right away! Thanks for stopping by, and mega witchy thanks for reposting so many of my Ello posts. πŸ˜€

  9. Hi Traci! Wow you’ve been writing since you were 6 years old?! That’s amazing. Does writing and witchcraft run in your family? Sorry if that’s a little personal, I am just curious! I have always found witchcraft interesting, but I stay away from Ouija boards LOL. Anyways, your blog is so nice! Love it. *following* πŸ™‚ Happy to have connected.

    1. Hey Blue! Nope, no writers or other witches (that I know of) in my tree – I am, what my family lovingly (I think – LOL) refers to as, “unique.” And not personal at all – I have no problem answering questions like that. Funny you should mention Ouija – one features rather prominently in the beginning of a novel I’ve been working on for a few (thousand) years! Thanks so much for your kind words, and I’ve already followed your most excellent blog as well. Definitely happy to have connected! πŸ˜€

    1. Thanks so much for the invitation, Colleen! I am beyond honored and tickled that you thought of me – however, I don’t have any of my books for sale yet – they’re all still stuck in editing mode, which I don’t see changing in the foreseeable future. I’d hate to take the spot of someone who has published something, and could use the sales boost. Truly appreciate the offer though, and hopefully I can take advantage of your generosity once I have something up on Amazon. *big hugs*

Feel free to shout out!
