A writing Pie chart to celebrate Pi Day

Tomorrow is Pi Day! For those of you unfamiliar with this “holiday,” here’s a blurb from the official site

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.

Pi has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern. While only a handful of digits are needed for typical calculations, Pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge to memorize, and to computationally calculate more and more digits.

Last year, I thought it would be fitting to create my own pie chart to celebrate this auspicious occasion. I’d seen a version of this floating around, found a Pie Chart generator, and put my own ingredients together. If you like it, please feel free to share the pie around! *grin*

Writing Pie chart

the idea and how you can participate too.”

Writing Pie chart. How I spend my time writing. Worrying I’m not good enough. Being jealous of other writers. Thinking about writing. Drinking coffee/vodka. Imagining the movie based on my book. Hanging out on social media for “research”. Staring out the window. Yelling at my characters in my head. Yelling at my characters out loud. Weighing the pros & cons of $.99 versus $2.99. Designing the book cover. Practicing my signature for book signings. Making lists (plot holes, favorite books, groceries). Actually writing. Therefore, a Writing Pie chart. First, this is not a passive voice. Next, I am writing in an active voice. Therefore, my SEO will stop telling me how to write. Furthermore, these sentences are also shorter than twenty words. Rather, stop being so controlling. Especially since most of the sentences in this post are not mine. I will keep going while until you turn green. Writing Pie chart. I can’t believe this is still orange. Finally, it has turned. Success! First, this is not a passive voice. Next, I am writing in an active voice. Therefore, my SEO will stop telling me how to write. 1. I was just telling my daughter last night that I had a dream that I opened a restaurant that only served pie. Not the same as your post but the odds of me actually doing it is mathematically impossible! I hope your Pi day is coconut cream 🙂

  2. I love this. I love this I love this. I’ve finally really started to buckle down and get to my writing and for me the orange and green ones should be bigger. Which writers are you wishing you were as good as?

    1. I’ve had times when my orange and green are out of control! 😛

I’m specifically jealous of Jim Butcher, for a myriad of reasons. I’m generally jealous of anyone who even appears remotely successful at this, “putting words to paper” thing.

  3. Getting to the ‘actually writing’ part and seeing the segment had me in stitches! I have to say I misread and initially took this to mean it was ‘pie day’. I was like, how did I manage to miss that there was a day of the year dedicated to a pie?! And then the penny dropped!

  4. Cracking up because while I would swap out a few things from your pie chart, the actual amount of writing time is pretty much the same. My downfall is YouTube videos.

    1. Yep, like I said, I’d found a version of this that had some things I wanted to change, which is what inspired me to do this. And agreed – YouTube is an evil timesuck.:D

  5. You’ve given me a couple of new ones to try. I’ll have to give a lot of thought to who would play the heroes and heroines in the films first, though.

Feel free to shout out!
