FF – I heart Foto Friday 24

Happy World Photo Day! How serendipitous that it landed on a Foto Friday!

Just like last Friday, here are my favorite photos of the week for Foto Friday 24. While I don’t plan to turn Fandom Fridays into Foto Fridays exclusively, for now, this is a great way to share some of the gazillion pictures I’m taking with my new camera. After getting carried away for the first month or so, I decided to limit myself to seven snaps each week.

Now, on to the photos! These were all taken between August 12th and August 19th.

UPDATE – By request, I’ve uploaded the Moon & Bat (and a cropped version I posted to Facebook) to my Fine Arts America gallery. I’ve already sold one copy to someone else! *happy dance*

  1. Oh, the bee in the zinnea & the bat photobomb! How amazing those are! And the hummer on the bean tendril!

I would LOVE if you would give more info on how you’re taking these pics. What camera are you using? Are you doing settings yourself? What are they? If not, what pre-setting on the camera are you doing? Are you using a remote? A tripod?

Your pictures are so lovely in comparison to mine & I have a decent camera, so it’s definitely the experience of the photographer (me) that’s costing me good pics.

Sitting at your feet now. 😉

    1. LOL! I’m happy to teach you all I know (which honestly, isn’t much), but I have to skidaddle for a few hours. I’ll be back later today, and I promise, there won’t be a pop quiz. *grin*

        1. No worries, Em – they’re excellent questions, and I don’t mind in the least answering them. 🙂

The bulk of the equipment questions are addressed in my blog post, “I heart my new Nikon camera” (https://www.traciyork.com/ff-heart-new-nikon-camera/) – i have links to the specs, my tripod, and such there.

At the moment, I’m still only using Auto Mode. I do play with the exposure settings – for example, I dropped down to the lowest setting for my moon and bat photo, because I felt the moon was too bright in earlier shots, and the darker ones showed better detail (I get the feeling the bat would’ve been blurrier if I’d stayed at the normal setting). No remote yet, but it’s on my wish list. I use the tripod almost every time I take a picture of the moon or hummingbirds, but I also take shots without – depends on how full my hands are when I’m meandering around outside (I get many of my shots whilst taking the dog and cat outside for their constitutionals *grin*).

There are many times I’ve gone through my shots, and found something I didn’t notice at first (like the ladybug photobomb last week). Some of my better pictures were a result of a heavy dose of cropping…LOL.

Oh, and I’m using the lens that came with the camera. I originally wanted to get a more expensive NIkon, so I could change out the lens eventually, but decided (thanks to our budget and reality) that I should start small. Given how amazing this “basic” lens has been, I’m so glad I did!

I think that covers all the questions for now, but please feel free to shout out with more. I love talking shop with sister shutterbugs!

Feel free to shout out!
